Jubilee Exceeds 100,000BOPD In First Quarter

Gross production from the Jubilee field, offshore Ghana, averaged approximately 102,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) in the first quarter of 2014, an increase from 93,000 BOPD in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to reports from both Kosmos Energy and Tullow Oil, two of the partners in the project. They hope that “gas-related constraints which currently limit oil production from the field”, will be sorted out before the end of the year. Tullow’s report, however, indicates that this will not happen early enough in the year to lift the cap above 100,000BOPD.

Ghana’s flagship deepwater oilfield has had output challenges since it came on stream in the yuletide of 2010. The first major issue was suboptimal completion which disallowed the field from delivering at planned plateau. When the remediation was concluded, the current challenge surfaced; to increase oil production means more gas output, which has to be injected, as the gas facility meant to receive the fluid is not ready.
